Web Sidebar: Center for Teaching and LearningThe St. Lawrence University Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at 62 Park Street is easily accessible, located on the perimeter of a residential campus. (See Figure 1.) Inside the building, a formal conference room is used in a variety of ways. A large conference table is often broken into smaller segments for break-out sessions and group work during CTL workshops. (See Figure 2.) The CTL conference room also works nicely for formal faculty dinners and committee meetings. (See Figure 3.) Figure 1 Laptops from the training lab are often used in the conference room; tables can be rearranged to accommodate groups of various sizes. (See Figure 4.) Furniture in the CTL can be moved to fit a lecture format and provide theater-style seating for smaller presentations (see Figure 5). Figure 4 Figure 5 The training lab provides comfortable small group training for eight. It is often used as a high-tech meeting environment. (See Figure 6.) Although the facility is wireless, direct access to network and AC power connections at the table top in the training lab is important to its success. (See Figure 7.) The presentation environment mimics our standard smart classroom and serves as a useful training environment for most classroom technologies. Technology components used throughout the facility such as the mobile presentation system, formal podium, laptops, and peripherals are also stored here. A mobile projection and audio system with a laptop docking station (see Figure 8) serves the conference room space effectively. Figure 6 Figure 7 Figure 8 The project lab offers faculty all-hours access to a high-end computer workstation, flatbed scanner, and color laser printer, including software and hardware not typically available in faculty offices. (See Figure 9.) Educational technologies staff routinely use this space for liaison hours appointments with faculty. The space also provides collaborative workspace and flexible furnishings.
