Academic Experience Question 1.5 Details
Does the school have multimedia labs you can use to work on projects? Is there help available?
Multimedia authoring-the use of special equipment and software for incorporating audio, video, and other forms of image management into class projects-is increasing in many different courses and disciplines. Previously used mostly in the fields of television and radio, art, architecture, and design, these technologies can now be found in course projects for English composition, social work, anthropology, history, foreign languages, engineering, health sciences, and so on.
Find out where multimedia opportunities or requirements occur in courses and programs at the schools you are considering. What special equipment and/or software is used? How will you be able to access these tools? Do they have to be reserved/checked out from the library or departmental offices, or will you have to purchase them yourself? Are there special fees involved with using these tools? Is there much competition for using them? Are there times of year when they are more in demand? Can you see samples of student work using such technologies?
