Does the campus support the purchase and use of e-textbooks? Do the baseline hardware and software standards support this technology?
Many academic publishers are beginning to replace or enhance traditional textbooks with multimedia-rich Web sites containing extensive audio and video content, interactive features, and advanced searching capabilities. The highly visual nature of the materials may require a personal computer with certain minimum hardware and software requirements. Questions to ask include:
- Are e-textbooks used on campus? If so, is their use required?
- How are e-textbooks accessed? Are they available both on and off campus?
- Are there specific hardware and software prerequisites needed to use e-textbooks?
