Question 4.9 Details

Does the campus provide wireless network coverage? If so, how much of the campus has wireless connectivity?

Wireless connection to the campus network and the Internet is being introduced on some campuses, making for even greater convenience for students and faculty with wireless–compatible laptops, notebooks, and/or personal digital assistants (PDAs).

If a wireless network has been installed on campus, it is likely to be operational in selected areas, usually certain key academic buildings and the library first, then commons areas and residence halls. Here are the important questions to ask:

  • Is there a wireless network on campus, and, if so, where does it operate?
  • On what kinds of devices will it work (laptop, notebook, PDA)?
  • What connection standard does the wireless network use? What internal "wireless card" is required in my computer?
