EDUCAUSE Board Selects Officers for 2009, Appoints Brad Wheeler

At its October 27 meeting in Orlando, FL, the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors elected the following officers for one-year terms starting on January 1, 2009:

  • Chair– Lucinda T. Lea, Middle Tennessee State University
  • Vice Chair– Tracy Mitrano, Cornell University
  • Secretary – Thomas L. Maier, University System of Georgia Office
  • Treasurer – Carrie E. Regenstein, Carnegie Mellon University

WheelerIn addition, the board is pleased to announce the appointment of Brad Wheeler to a four-year term as an at-large member, starting on January 1. Wheeler is vice president for information technology, CIO, and professor at Indiana University (IU), with responsibility for all of the university’s highly leveraged IT services for eight system campuses. Prior to becoming the CIO, he held several roles as the associate dean for teaching and learning IT, associate vice president for research computing, and associate vice president for community source initiatives. He currently serves in leadership roles for over $20 million of shared university investments in open source software, serves on the board of the Sakai Foundation, and chairs the Kuali Foundation Board. As a professor of information systems at IU's Kelley School of Business, he has taught MBA courses in executive leadership of IT strategy, and e-business/e-learning courses for international corporate and academic audiences.

EDUCAUSE President Diana Oblinger said, “Brad will bring to the board fresh perspectives and broad experience in the higher education IT community. As EDUCAUSE advances its strategic directions in 2009 and beyond, Brad’s thought leadership and ability to deal with complex issues will be a real asset in guiding the association as it meets members’ needs.”

Wheeler joins two elected members, previously announced, who will also begin their terms in 2009: Joel P. Cooper of Carleton College and Ted Dodds of the University of British Columbia. Access more information about the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors.
