EDUCAUSE is pleased to announce two individuals who have been elected to the association’s board of directors for four-year terms beginning January 1, 2008. Thomas L. Maier and Carrie E. Regenstein were elected by primary representatives of member institutions during the board election that ended on September 25. EDUCAUSE welcomes the perspectives and expertise these new board members will bring to the association’s governance. Brief profiles follow.
Thomas L. Maier is vice chancellor for information and instructional technology and CIO for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, where he is involved in the planning, communication, management, development, and implementation of all facets of information technology in a multi-institution environment. His particular areas of expertise and advocacy include strategic and financial planning, policy development, learning management systems, project portfolio management, facilities/IT integration, and converged communications. His previous positions with the University System of Georgia were assistant vice chancellor for information technology, executive director of planning and policy development, and executive director of enterprise technology infrastructure services. Prior to coming to the Georgia system, he served as director of information technology services and director of academic computing at Agnes Scott College, and chair of the Natural Science and Mathematics Division at Atlanta Metropolitan College. He has held faculty appointments in chemistry at Agnes Scott College, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Atlanta Metropolitan College. For EDUCAUSE, he has served as Southeast Regional Conference program committee chair and member; Seminars on Academic Computing board and program committee member; Membership Services Committee chair and member; and Net@EDU representative. In addition, he has served on the Southern Directors Conference, SREB-ATAlliance, Georgia Technology Authority, GIS Coordinating Council, Georgia Electronic Commerce Association, and Technology Association of Georgia. He co-authored the ECAR research bulletin on Information Technology and Campus Facility Planning. Maier holds a BA in chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College, and a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of South Carolina.
Carrie E. Regenstein is executive director of computing services at Carnegie Mellon University, where she co-leads the Computing Services Division, providing IT infrastructure and services to support the research and education missions of the university. In previous positions, she served as associate director of the Division of Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; director of academic technology services and assistant dean for educational technology at the University of Rochester; and associate director of academic technology at Cornell University. For EDUCAUSE, she has been a faculty member at the Management Institute and the New Directors Seminar of the Seminars on Academic Computing (SAC); SAC board member; Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning member and chair; Nomination and Election Committee member and chair; and Professional Development Committee member. She also served as first chair of the InCommon Federation Steering Committee for Internet2. In addition to mentoring numerous peers and emerging IT leaders, she has written and presented extensively on such topics as leadership, policy creation and implementation, learning technologies vision and strategies, career management, and professional development. Regenstein holds a Magna Cum Laude BA from Brooklyn College and an MEd in teaching foreign languages from Bridgewater State College.
At the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors’ meeting on October 22, 2007, the following officers were elected for one-year terms starting January 1, 2008: Chair: David L. Smallen, Hamilton College; Vice Chair: Lucinda T. Lea, Middle Tennessee State University; Treasurer: Scott E. Siddall, Kenyon College; and Secretary: Tracy Mitrano, Cornell University.

Nominations are now being accepted online for the 2009 board election, which will be conducted in 2008. The nomination deadline is February 1, 2008.
