May 22, 2009, Boulder, Colorado—EDUCAUSE, the association for information technology (IT) in higher education, announces the resignation of Cynthia Golden as vice president. Golden has accepted an appointment as director of the Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education at the University of Pittsburgh.

Golden joined EDUCAUSE in 2001 after serving in IT leadership and management roles at Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, and Duquesne University. Her portfolio encompassed a wide variety of association programs and functions, including the EDUCAUSE Institutes and numerous other professional development activities; content management and publications; and conferences. She was responsible for initiating several of the association’s regional conferences, creating the Learning Technology Leadership Program, establishing the Enterprise Conference, and starting the popular EDUCAUSE Live! Web Seminar series. Golden also developed programming for the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference and many other events.

In announcing her new position, Golden reflected on her service with EDUCAUSE: "It has been an honor and a privilege to work for this association and to serve the higher education IT community for the past eight years. I look forward to my continued involvement with EDUCAUSE as an active and engaged member, and as a member of the university community once again."

EDUCAUSE President Diana Oblinger spoke for many EDUCAUSE staff and community members in noting that "Cynthia Golden has played an important role in the growth of EDUCAUSE and our community. We will miss her. We wish her well as she undertakes a new set of responsibilities at Pitt, and we look forward to her continued contributions to the profession as an EDUCAUSE member."

Golden’s resignation will take effect on July 10, 2009. She will begin her new role with the University of Pittsburgh on August 1.
