Lassner, Orr Elected to EDUCAUSE Board of Directors

October 8, 2009, Boulder, Colorado—EDUCAUSE, the association for information technology in higher education, announced that David Lassner of the University of Hawaii and Pattie Orr of Baylor University have been elected to the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors by the association’s membership. They will each serve a four-year term. About the election, EDUCAUSE President Diana Oblinger said, “Given their consistent leadership and commitment to advancing the role of technology in higher education, we are fortunate to welcome Pattie Orr and David Lassner to the EDUCAUSE board. Their knowledge and insight will help ensure EDUCAUSE continues to evolve in ways that best serve its members and higher education in general.”

Lassner photoDavid Lassner is the founding CIO for the University of Hawaii, which encompasses all public higher education in Hawaii, including seven community colleges, two comprehensive universities, and a major research university. Lassner has served the EDUCAUSE community in a variety of roles, including as past chair of both the Nominations Committee and the Recognition Committee, a Net@EDU Advisory Committee member, and an EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program faculty member. He is a founder and current board secretary of the Kuali Foundation, and he has played an active leadership role in Internet2, including as a board member. Lassner’s work with other state, local, and international initiatives encompasses service on the board of the Hawaii High Technology Development Corporation and as chair for both Hawaii’s Broadband Task Force and the Pacific Telecommunications Council. He also recently completed a term on the faculty of the Council of Australian University Directors of Information Technology (CAUDIT) Management Institute.

Lassner earned an A.B in economics and an M.S. in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. in communications and information sciences from the University of Hawaii.

Orr photoAs Baylor’s vice president for information technology and the dean of university libraries, Pattie Orr leads the university-wide information technology organization that provides administrative and academic technology services, technology infrastructure, and library services and support for digital assets. She also chairs the Baylor University Sustainability Committee. A 2000 Frye Leadership Institute Fellow, Orr’s service to EDUCAUSE includes her current membership on the association’s Professional Development Committee, her previous role as chair of the EDUCAUSE Membership Committee, and her past membership on the faculty of the EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program. She currently sits on both the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Steering Committee and the EDUCAUSE/Cornell Institute for Computer Policy and Law (ICPL) Advisory Board. Previously a member of the board of the Northeast Regional Computing Program (NERCOMP), Orr now serves on the boards of the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN), the Texas Digital Library, and Texas Women in Higher Education.

Orr holds a B.S. in education from Abilene Christian University and a master’s degree in education from Lesley University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education administration.
