Questions and Answers
1.
I can't hear the audio. What can I do?
Most sound issues are either related to your computer system volume and speakers, or an outdated version of the Adobe Flash Player.
If you have external speakers for your system, make sure they are turned on and that the volume is turned up.
On your laptop or desktop system, make sure your volume is turned up, and that sound isn't muted.
If you are unable to hear audio after taking the above steps:
Update Flash Player to the most recent version.
Close all your browser windows, then reopen your browser and navigate back to the online session. Some users may need to reboot for changes to take effect.
Macintosh Users: A known issue with Abobe Connect is related to certain Mac audio cards. The following steps will address the issue:
Install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player by going to http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer .
Start the GarageBand application and let it complete initialization. Close GarageBand and try to connect to the seminar again.
If the previous two steps do not resolve your problem, please review the following Adobe Tech Note [PDF 14 KB] .
Mac users with this issue should be able to access and hear archives of the live event, even if the audio problem within the live session is unresolved. Most EDUCAUSE events are archived and can be accessed after the event concludes. If you experience temporary bandwidth issues, please try accessing the archive of the meeting at a later time.
2.
The meeting audio isn't consistent (fades, choppy). Is there anything I can do to improve it?
"Choppy" audio is typically a bandwidth problem. Adobe Connect requires, at minimum, a broadband Internet connection. If you are connected via 56k modem, audio will be choppy.
If you are connected via cable modem, DSL modem, or wired Ethernet and experience audio issues, try the following:
Check your bandwidth designation in Adobe Connect. Under the Meeting menu choose My Connection Speed . Ensure this setting accurately reflects your connection speed.
Run the Audio Setup Wizard under the Meeting menu. This will optimize your settings for your audio hardware.
Most EDUCAUSE events are archived and are available after the event concludes. If you experience temporary bandwidth issues, please try accessing the archive of the meeting at a later time.
3.
I was told to login as "Guest," but there's no such option. How can I log in?
ELI Web Seminars require that you have an EDUCAUSE web profile and are logged into your profile to access the online meeting. If you are not logged into your EDUCAUSE profile, when you click Access the Web Seminar , you will be directed to the profile login page. Once you have logged in, you will be directed to the meeting room, where you can log in as a guest.
4.
My Flash Player is out of date. Where can I upgrade it?
Adobe Flash Player updates can be found on the Adobe website at http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer .
5.
The Adobe Connect client test site says the Adobe Connect plug-in is not available. Is this important?
The Adobe Connect plug-in is important only for moderators and presenters within the session. If you are not a moderator or presenter, you can safely ignore this warning.
The Adobe Connect plug-in is not available for Linux systems; Linux users will receive a message saying that it is not available. If you are a Linux user, you may not be able to connect to EDUCAUSE online presentations (see #7 below), although Adobe's documentation states that Linux systems should be able to connect. As of May 2008, we're aggressively pursuing the problem with Adobe and expect a resolution soon.
6.
I don't see a private chat option within the meeting chat window. How can I get it?
Some users have reported this problem. Most users should see the Everyone drop-down menu in the chat window and be able to use it to select a user to send a message to. If you can't see it, the most common cause is screen resolution. You can try the following steps:
Resize your browser window
Close your browser completely and reenter the room.
Change your computer's screen resolution. Please try a resolution of at least 1024 x 768
7.
I use Linux and I'm not able to connect to the meeting. How can I connect?
This is a known issue with our meeting space in particular. As of May 2008, we're aggressively pursuing the problem with Adobe and expect a resolution soon. In the meantime, Linux users will need to use an alternate system, if available, to connect to the live meeting. Archives do not appear to be impacted by this issue and are available for most of our meetings within an hour of the event’s conclusion.
