Browser Plug-ins and Helper Applications

PDF (Adobe Acrobat PDF)

Selecting the graphic (Adobe PDF) will return a PDF file (.pdf) that can be viewed by the Adobe Acrobat Reader. To view PDF files on the EDUCAUSE Web site, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 or greater. The program is available for download on the Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com/acrobat/readstep2.html.

PowerPoint

Selecting the graphic (PowerPoint) will return a PowerPoint presentation. Your system must have PowerPoint installed in order to view files with the PowerPoint icon. For system requirement information, or to purchase Microsoft PowerPoint, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/.

Excel

Selecting the graphic (Excel) will return an Excel spreadsheet. Your system must have Excel installed in order to view files with the Excel icon. For system requirement information, or to purchase Microsoft Excel, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/.

Multimedia

Selecting the graphic (Multimedia) will return a page that will contain content that includes multiple types of media (e.g. audio and PowerPoint).

RealAudio/Video

RealAudio/Video files are for streaming audio and/or video over the Internet. These files will be identified by the graphic (Real Media). To utilize these files you must first install a copy of the RealPlayer on your computer and configure it for use with your web browser. The Basic RealPlayer application is available free of charge from the RealMedia web site at http://www.realaudio.com/products/player/index.html.

Windows Media

Windows Media files are for streaming audio and/or video over the Internet. These files will be identified by the graphic (Windows Media). To utilize these files you must first install a copy of the Windows Media Player on your computer and configure it for use with your web browser. Windows Media Player is available free of charge from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/

ASCII Text

Selecting the graphic (Text), will return the ASCII text of the document. This version of the document will not contain any formatting or varying fonts or typesizes. This type of file is suitable for electronic mail and delivery to character-based clients.
