Anne H. Moore

Biography

Anne Moore is associate vice president for learning technologies and director of information technology initiatives at Virginia Tech. Drawing upon Virginia Tech's strengths in information technology, she is responsible for building partnerships within the university and with other organizations that assist in meeting modern needs for technology in society. As head of the Office of Information Technology’s Learning Technologies division, she works along side colleagues to coordinate such award winning programs as the Faculty Development Institute (a four-year cycling development program for university faculty in integrating technology in teaching) and the Graduate Education Development Institute (a credit-bearing course for graduate students on contemporary approaches to pedagogy and technology); to contribute to university initiatives like the Math Emporium (a 24 X 7 advanced learning community in mathematics); and to assist underserved rural and urban communities with integrating technology in teaching and learning activities. She also serves as adjunct faculty in the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning.

Dr. Moore coordinates Virginia Tech’s Center for Innovation in Learning, which has provided over $3 million in grants to faculty since 1996 to support more than 120 strategic instructional projects. The center annually sponsors the XCaliber Award to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions in integrating technology in learning activities. She manages the Executive Forum in Information Technology, an occasional seminar series designed to encourage public discussion on current technology issues by forming partnerships with other organizations in Virginia and across the nation to offer forums on timely topics.

Anne Moore was the founding chair of the Electronic Campus of Virginia (ECVA) for three years and currently serves as its treasurer. The ECVA is a cooperative of public and private institutions in the Commonwealth focused on providing e-learning to Virginians. She is also an appointed member of Virginia's Learning Technologies Advisory Committee and was recently selected to serve on the commonwealth's Joint Commission on Science and Technology advisory committee on open education resources.

Prior to working at Virginia Tech, Dr. Moore was associate director for administration at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. She served as staff director of Virginia's Commission on the University of the 21st Century and Commission on the Future of Higher Education. In addition, she has been an administrator and adjunct faculty member at William and Mary, where she took all three of her degrees. She has authored numerous articles, book chapters and policy papers and serves on several local, state and national advisory boards.
