Catherine Lavallee-WelchAssociate Librarian Lakeland, Florida UNITED STATES Catherine Lavallee-WelchBiographyCatherine Lavallee-Welch is the Associate Librarian for the University of South Florida Polytechnic. As the first USF librarian on campus, she developed library services and opened the USF Polytechnic Library in January 2007. She received her M.L.I.S. from the Universite de Montreal in 1995. Before moving to Florida in Spring 2005, she spent five years at the University of Louisville at the Laura Kersey Library of Engineering, Physical Science and Technology. Previously, she worked as an information broker and an information specialist on various Internet projects in the province of Québec, Canada and in French-speaking Europe. Her research interests include the usage of social software in libraries and fee-based library services for external organizations. A blogger since 2001, she created and maintained several blogs in, and outside, of the biblioblogosphere. Active in the Special Libraries Association (SLA), she held various board positions in the Science and Technology Division, the Information Technology Division and the Kentucky Chapter. She is currently the Chair of the Information Technology Division. At the University of South Florida, she is a member of, among others, the USFP Academic & Student Affairs Council and the USFP Faculty Senate.
