Biography

Geoffrey Meigs works out of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut. Acting as a resource for the Dean on computing issues, he and his staff also provide advice to faculty and staff in the college and participate in a number of university IT advisory and strategic planning groups. Geoffrey's computer support group (two full-time and four part-time staff) provide a broad range of computer support services to faculty and staff within CLAS, complimenting the university's central IT organization. His backgroung in languages (M.A. Italian-UCLA, B.A. French and Italian-Indiana University) led him to his first job in IT through an interest in machine-assisted translation. Beginning in the early 1980's he stepped through a series of jobs in New York and Los Angeles involving operations, system administration, programming and end-user support. From 1991-1996 Geoffrey lived in Rome and provided system administration and end-user support for the World Health Organization's European Centre for Environmental Health.
