James I. Penrod

Biography

James I. Penrod is a Professor Emeritus of Higher Education Leadership at the University of Memphis. He was one of the first dozen Chief Information Officers to be appointed in an institution of higher education and has served at four universities in that capacity: Pepperdine University, the University of Maryland at Baltimore, California State University Los Angeles, and the University of Memphis. He holds a doctorate in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University, a masters in Biostatistics from Tulane University, and a bachelors in Mathematics from Harding University. Dr. Penrod served as an ECAR Senior Fellow from 2003-2005 and as an AT&T Fellow, Advanced Learning Center, FedEx Institute of Technology from 2004-2006 . He has been active in professional organizations such as CAUSE, EDUCOM, EDUCAUSE, SIM, AAHE, and AIR for many years serving on a variety of boards and committees; additionally he has been active in his community and church. He is the author of more than 50 publications and speaks regularly to national and regional audiences. Dr. Penrod has served as a consultant for more than 30 colleges and universities over the past 25 years.
