Biography

James P. Frazee
Dr. Frazee, formerly the Director of Information Technology for the Sweetwater Union High School District, the largest secondary school district in the nation, is now the Director of Instructional Technology Services at San Diego State University. He has taught educational technology courses for SDSU and at the University of San Diego, and has written and presented widely on the subjects of obtaining, managing and leveraging large state and federal educational technology grants, designing faculty professional development programs, and using technology to push curriculum reform. In 2002, he was awarded the EDUCAUSE Quarterly Contribution of the Year Award for his paper “Charting a Smooth Course for Portal Development.” Building on this, he was the first author of a chapter featured in the book “Designing Portals: Opportunities and Challenges” (Edited by Jafari & Sheehan, 2003). Most recently, he has written and been invited to give talks and lead workshops based on his experience designing large (>500-seat) learning spaces. His academic research focuses on using technology as a tool to promote active (student-centered) learning strategies in higher education. James is a Frye Fellow, class of 2008.
