Joel D. BackonJoel D. BackonBiographyJoel Backon has been the Director of Information Technology at Choate Rosemary Hall since 1992. During that time, Choate has installed a campus network, introduced telephone service and network access in dormitory rooms, launched an academic technology program, created a technology funding model, and launched both internal and external web sites. In addition, Joel has managed a dormitory, coached basketball, and still teaches one section of history. Since 1997, support for academic technology has been distributed, and Joel has coordinated the efforts of the Department Academic Technology Specialists (DATS). Joel is currently the Chair of the CT Association of Independent Schools' Commission on Technology. He has served as the founder and Director of the CT Telecommunications Insight Forum and a member of the Steering Committee for edACCESS, a constituent group of Educause representing small schools. Prior to his work in education, Joel managed several technology development and support initiatives in the graphic arts industry.
