John J. Gibson

Biography

John Gibson has taught business and information technology courses for the Maricopa Community Colleges since 2000. Prior to working at Glendale Community College, he was a consultant in information technology at Arizona State University West, where he worked with faculty to integrate technology into their teaching and learning endeavors. He has also managed IT services for the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) College of Business, Thunderbird School of Global Management, and the Fall 1995 World Voyage of Semester at Sea. Earlier in his career, Gibson was a database programmer/analyst for the USDA and taught a variety of computer information systems courses as a faculty member at UNC. His professional areas of interest include the use of technology in teaching and learning, diverse learning preferences, distributed learning environments, and workforce skills for the global knowledge economy. He received his master’s in business and computer information systems from Colorado State University and his bachelor’s in education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Gibson is a co-principal investigator on the Digital Visual Literacy (DVL) project.
