Kevin Gamble (North Carolina State University)Associate Director-National eXtension Initiative Raleigh, North Carolina UNITED STATES Kevin GambleBiographyKevin Gamble, is the Chief Technology Officer for the American Distance Education Consortium. In his capacity as CTO he is also the Project Director for the National Science Foundation Advanced Internet Satellite Extension Project (AISEP). Dr. Gamble is best known for his efforts in leading the Cooperative Extension System on to the Internet. He was part of a team that developed the Almanac Information Server in 1991 as a mechanism for sharing land-grant university information worldwide. Almanac was one of the Internet's first listserv programs. He implemented the Cooperative Extension System's first World Wide Web server in 1993. He was an early pioneer in using the Internet and WWW for online teaching and learning. He has also been involved in founding the Land Grant Open Source Alliance, a consortium of universities dedicated to the collaborative development and sharing of open-source software and course content. Gamble is active in several national programs and projects: ADEC, AgNIC, SANet, and CYFERnet. He also serves on the national CSREES Information Technology Steering Committee. Most recently he has been appointed to ECOP?s 21st Century Extension project taskforce. Gamble earned his PhD in 1985 from Iowa State University. Before joining ADEC he was the Director of IT for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University.
