Lanny ArvanCIO and Assoc Dean for eLearning, College of Business Champaign, Illinois UNITED STATES Lanny ArvanBiographyLanny Arvan is the CIO and Associate Dean for eLearning in the College of Business at Illinois. He is also an economist and holds a faculty appointment in the Economics Department. His principal current interest revolves around how to engage students in large classes via a combination of blended learning and peer mentoring, to find an approach that suitably scales to the entire Campus, and that leverages scarce resources. He also is very interested in developing faculty who teach the same course or similar courses in a variety of different contexts, using online content that the faculty themselves produce to complement face to face instruction that can be more interactive and engaging as a consequence. He is an advocate and sometimes critic of the profession, expressing his views in his blog Lanny on Learning Technology.
