Tanya Joosten

Biography

Tanya Joosten is a co-author of a chapter found in "Blended Learning: Research Perspectives" published by the Sloan-C, a recent article on teaching challenges in the EDUCAUSE Review, and an article on clicker technology effectiveness in the ECAR Bulletin. Most recently, her survey of students' use of Twitter was quoted in the The Chronicle of Higher Education's Wired Campus (http://chronicle.com/section/Technology/30/).

Tanya has presented her work on managing implementations and evaluating educational technologies (Second Life, Clickers) as well as her work in blended and online teaching and learning at EDUCAUSE Annual, the Sloan-C International Symposium on Emerging Technologies in Online Learning, the Annual Distance Teaching and Learning Conference, the National Communication Association Annual Conference, and others.

You can see her at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Denver in November where she will be presenting Students Perceptions of Second Life and Best Practices for Using Second Life. Also, she is invited by EDUCAUSE to facilitate a discussion on Social Networking and is invited by ELI as a co-presenter a session on Virtual Communities and Learning.

As a Learning Technology Consultant and the Acting Associate Director at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Learning Technology Center (LTC), she manages emerging technology projects, like Second Life (http://uwmsecondlife.wikispaces.com), is the campus liaison for online programming (http://online.uwm.edu), and is a part of the recognized team that presents the UWM Online and Blended Faculty Development Workshop (http://hybrid.uwm.edu).

In the Department of Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she is a Lecturer and at Arizona State University Hugh Downs School of Human Communication where she was a doctorate student and graduate teaching associate, Tanya has gained almost a decade of experience teaching technology-enhanced, blended, and fully online courses.

Her research interests include technological implementation, organizational communication, communication technology, and emerging technologies and learning.
