Biography

Dr. Teshia Young Roby is an assistant professor in the College of Education and Integrative Studies (CEIS) at California State University, Pomona. Dr. Roby teaches multimedia development and instructional design courses to graduate students in the Educational Multimedia program and technology integration courses to pre-services and in-service teachers in the Teacher Education program within CEIS.

Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Roby was the program lead for the Designing Online Learning-Centered Environments (DOLCE) program at Cal Poly Pomona. The DOLCE program employs a faculty-team approach to course redesign of medium- and large-enrollment courses into blended and online formats and is jointly sponsored by the Cal Poly Pomona Faculty Development Center and the Instructional and Information Technology division. Dr. Roby’s previous academic experience also includes an educational technologies research faculty position at the Georgia Institute of Technology and an appointment as a pre-service and in-service teacher educator in the College of Education at Georgia State University.

Dr. Roby earned a PhD in Instructional Technology at Georgia State University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Clemson University, an MBA from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, and a Master’s in Instructional Technology. Dr. Roby’s research interests include implementation of successful active learning and group collaboration opportunities in online environments; use of Web 2.0 technologies to promote communication, collaboration, and cohesion; the identification of elements of successful online teaching and learning processes; and the use of multiple instructional design models during development of instruction.
