Victoria SzaboAsst Research Prof, Visual and Media Studies; Prog Dir, Info Sci & Info Studies Durham, North Carolina UNITED STATES Victoria SzaboBiographyVictoria Szabo has worked at Duke University since 2006. She is an Assistant Research Professor in Visual and Media Studies. She is also the Program Director for Information Science + Information Studies (ISIS), and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of English. Her work at Duke focuses on the transformative impact of technology and new media on academic and scholarly practice in higher education, with special attention to interdisciplinary collaborations. Her teaching and research interests focus on spatial media (including mapping, virtual worlds, and mixed-reality environments) as non-linear authoring spaces, and on the cultural and social impacts of "new" media in Victorian and contemporary contexts, especially in relationship to authorship and identity. She chaired the new, interdisciplinary "Information Aesthetics Showcase" at the SIGGRAPH 2009 conference in New Orleans. From 1999-2006, Victoria worked at Stanford University, where she was the Academic Technology Manager for the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. While at Stanford she was one of the leaders of the Stanford on iTunes initiative. She also worked on numerous projects in cademic technology for the Introduction to the Humanities program (where she also taught), and for Stanford University Libraries and Academic Information Resources. Before coming to Stanford she was an Instructional Multimedia Specialist at Grinnell College, from 1996-98. Szabo holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester and a Certificate from the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Research on Women and Gender. She also has an M.A. from Indiana University and a B.A. from Williams College.
