Cybersecurity Awareness Resource Library

Welcome to the EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Computer and Network Security Task Force Cybersecurity Awareness Resource Library.

The Security Task Force's Awareness & Training Working Group is pleased to present this compilation of cybersecurity awareness resources for colleges and universities. We hope that you will find them useful in your efforts to raise awareness within your community.

A Letter from the Co-Chairs

EDUCAUSE and Internet2 established the Computer and Network Security Task Force in July 2000 to improve awareness among the EDUCAUSE and Internet2 memberships and throughout higher education. One of the strategic goals of the Security Task Force is to increase the awareness of the associated risks of computer and network use and the corresponding responsibilities of higher education executives and end-users of technology, including faculty, staff, and students. The Awareness and Training Working Group was established to provide direction and leadership to this important initiative.

Security professionals consistently report that some of the most beneficial components of a security program are those projects that make people at all levels aware of the issues and dangers, and of their responsibilities as executives, managers, technicians, workstation users -- and network citizens. In support of that assertion, one of the priorities of the Awareness and Training Working Group is to identify and draw attention to excellent work already being done in this area by our colleagues at various campuses. The material in the Cybersecurity Awareness Resource Library is one of the products of that effort.

We hope you find these materials inspiring, if not directly useful. Remember that improved security awareness on your campus contributes to an improvement in security -- and positively affects the perception of security -- across higher education.

We very much appreciate the colleges and universities who contributed materials, and the individuals who worked hard to produce this library. Please do visit the Acknowledgements section where those campuses and individuals are specifically identified.

Sincerely,

Krizi Trivisani, Awareness and Training Working Group Co-Chair (The George Washington University)
Calvin Weeks, Awareness and Training Working Group Co-Chair (The University of Oklahoma)
