ECAR Appoints Jack McCredie as Senior Fellow
Jack McCredie is an associate vice chancellor emeritus and CIO emeritus of the University of California, Berkeley. From 1992 through December 2005, he was responsible for leading all central computing and communication activities, including the campus data and voice network and support for academic and administrative programs. Previously, he directed the External Research Program at Digital Equipment Corporation, and before that he served as president of Educom and vice provost for computing and planning at Carnegie Mellon University. Jack has been especially effective in helping the campus envision the future of computing and communications technologies, and in developing strategies to bring the vision to fruition in support of the universitys mission, said UC Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Paul Gray. For this, we owe Jack our immense gratitude. On December 15, 2005, McCredie received the prestigious Berkeley Citation. Fewer than 650 individuals, including Jacques Cousteau, Arthur Schlesinger, Melvin Calvin, Philip Habib, and Nobel laureate Czeslaw Milosz, have received this award since its inception in 1969. McCredie is currently a member of the Internet2 Board of Trustees, chairs the Internet2 Network Planning and Policy Advisory Council, and was a founding member of the board of the Corporation for Education Networking Initiatives in California (CENIC), on which he served for five years. He holds bachelors and masters degrees from Yale University and a doctorate in systems and communications science from Carnegie Mellon University. At ECAR, McCredie will work on a variety of studies, focusing in particular on IT governance. About ECAR
