• The University of Wisconsin–Madison Engage program facilitates transformation of teaching and learning with information technologies by providing awards to instructors to adapt technologies for their courses. Podcasting was chosen as a theme in 2006 and 2007.
• Podcasting awards to 90 instructors enabled them to experiment with audio modes of learning and creating a feeling of social presence.
• Some instructors observed learning gains by students using the course podcast, while others found that podcasting helped them match students’ learning styles and study habits at home and out in the field.
• Two years later, instructors who benefited from the Engage funding continue to create podcasts for their classes.

The Engage program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison helped instructors experiment with podcasting as a means for reaching students through the audio mode. The innovative podcasts instructors created enhanced their students’ learning experience. Their success with podcasting led them to make additional changes in their courses and brought them unanticipated rewards.
