With difficult economic times causing many in higher education to question investments in information security—at just the time when cyber attacks are increasing in number, scope, and sophistication—institutional leaders need to consider ways to make these investments as efficiently as possible.

As IT organizations move to becoming integrators of IT services provided both locally and in the cloud, institutions must begin to plan for shared services and must understand the essential role that identity management and trust services play in making this integration possible.

When colleges and universities put the expertise of their people to more efficient use—“sweat the assets”—institutions will maximize the effectiveness of the IT support organization and will thus be able to leverage their IT investments and resources to meet unbounded need.
