2004 Annual MeetingNew Learning EcoSystems Proceedings
Meeting Theme and PurposeThe idea of "learning ecosystems" has been emerging over the past year in international conferences and forums, and could be a useful way of thinking about elearning and higher education. In biological terms, an ecosystem is the complex of a community and its environment functioning as an ecological unit. New learners, using new technologies, are creating new learning ecosystems on campus. The mobile and connected learner interacting with a blended learning environment is changing concepts of time, place, and space for higher education. Meeting Organization and Key ThemesThis meeting will deepen NLII's tradition of designing conferences and meetings that are as participatory and interactive as possible. We will offer featured and concurrent sessions organized by key theme. NLII 2004 Annual Meeting Key ThemesPrinciples, Plans & Policies

Emerging themes:The following are themes emerging for exploration during 2004, and NLII members will have an opportunity at the Annual Meeting to help set the research agenda for these topics, and may also propose presentations in these areas:
In addition, we will offer a special interactive track for increased active learning opportunities. Virtual Communities of PracticeWe will also provide opportunities for participants to network with peers, both in person at the annual meeting and in virtual groups before and after the meeting, by offering virtual communities of practice organized around key themes. Pre-Meeting PreparationsTo help participants get the most out of the conference, we will offer supplemental readings and resources to prepare them for the various presentations and to raise the level of discussion. We will be asking all speakers to recommend white papers, Web sites, articles, and other resources that were helpful to attendees with an interest in a particular topic; these will be placed on Pre-Meeting Preparations page as they are provided to us. |
