| 1. | How do I order Internet connectivity? |
| | Connections to the conference Internet are provided by EDUCAUSE. EDUCAUSE has an agreement with the Colorado Convention Center to provide all connectivity for the exhibit hall floor. Internet connectivity cannot be ordered through the convention center. To order your Internet connection, use the online form in the online exhibitor kit. |
| 2. | Will the conference network be fast enough for our company to demonstrate our products and services? |
| | While no connection can be 100% guaranteed, the conference network is expected to be connected to the Internet and the Internet2 (Abilene) network over an OC3. That connection will supply 12 MB to the commodity internet and over 300MB to Internet2 sites. If your company has a special need and is expecting to place a particularly large demand on network resources please contact Randy Richter at rrichter@educause.edu so that we can make appropriate plans. |
| 3. | How do I order a phone line for my booth? |
| | You order your phone line from the Colorado Convention Center. The forms are in the Freeman exhibitor kit CD. For further questions, see the "contacts" link of your EDUCAUSE 2004 exhibitor kit. |
| 4. | What do I get in my booth when I order an Internet connection? |
| | The service that EDUCAUSE provides is a single cable drop to the conference network. The cable will have an RJ45 connector on it. Your device should have an RJ45 jack on it. If your laptop requires a dongle be sure to bring it. |
| 5. | What if I need to connect more than one device? |
| | Use the Internet order form in the online exhibitor kit. You will be issued an IP address for each connection that you order. However, you will be responsible for providing any necessary hubs and cables in your booth beyond the single drop that we will provide. Please let us know in advance of your needs by contacting Randy Richter at rrichter@educause.edu. |
| 6. | Will the IP addresses be static or dynamic? |
| | The IP addresses in the exhibit hall will be static. You will be issued an IP address for each Internet connection that you order on the form. You must order an IP address for each device that you plan to connect to the conference network. |
| 7. | Can I get my IP address information in advance of the conference? |
| | We do not typically know the IP addresses until we are on-site. However, if you let us know in advance, we will do everything possible to get you the information as soon as possible. |
| 8. | Can I setup a NAT server or DHCP server in my booth? |
| | We request that you do not setup a NAT server or DHCP server in your booth. Fair bandwidth allocation is dependent on all exhibitors accurately specifying the number of devices that they will connect to the network. Please request an IP address for each device you intend to connect. |
| 9. | Can I use wireless in my booth? |
| | We will not provide wireless in the booth. We request that wireless only be used by those vendors demonstrating the technology as part of their booths. You will still need to order a hardwire connection to connect your wireless hub to. If you use wireless we ask that you contact Randy Richter, rrichter@educause.edu, well in advance so that we can incorporate your plans into our network design and ensure the integrity of the network. We also ask that the network name be a private name that others could not use. Please request an IP address for each device that will connect to the wireless hub. In other words, we want the access point to function in bridge mode, and not distribute IP addresses. There will be no wireless available for exhibitors to connect to in the exhibit hall. |
| 10. | Will there be any ports/services blocked that could cause a problem with connecting to computers outside of the convention center? |
| | Yes. In an effort to reduce the potential of harmful applications propagating on the network, the following ports and services will be blocked. Deny all ICMP Deny Vulnerable Protocols on ports – 135,139,402,445,1434,4444 Deny UDP netbios Deny UDP netbios-dgm Deny TFTP
| 11. | How do I get help setting up my connection? |
| | We will make every effort to meet with each of you. You can plan on finding an IP address report in your booth with the number of IP addresses that you have ordered. Please make sure that you understand how to configure networking on your equipment before arriving onsite. If you are having trouble with your connection and suspect that it is the networking cable, please go to the EDUCAUSE Exhibitor Desk, and someone will be dispatched to your booth. Please check your networking connection as soon as possible to avoid last-minute problems. |
| 12. | What if I get on-site and need to connect more devices than originally planned? |
| | You will be able to request additional IP addresses for those devices at the EDUCAUSE Exhibitor Desk in the exhibit hall. However, there may be a late fee associated with the fulfillment of the order.
| 13. | What if I have problems with my lead retrieval system? |
| | You will be able to get support from the bCard service desk in the exhibit hall. |
| 14. | What information is on the lead retrieval card? |
| | The lead retrieval card contains basic business card information. In addition, if we have the information on file, the data will include some information about the university including FTE (Full Time Equivalent) enrollment, Control (Public/Private), and Carnegie Classification. |
| 15. | If I am bringing my own computer, what steps should I take before I arrive at the conference? |
| | Make sure your virus detection software is up to date. Make sure your computer has the latest software patches installed. Understand that connections to the Internet will be on a public network with many different users and computing platforms. Some of those systems may be infected with undesirable worms and viruses.
| 16. | What steps has EDUCAUSE taken to protect the conference network? |
| | Network traffic in the convention center will be separated onto different networks to help isolate any potential problems. Some network ports and services known to be used by potentially dangerous applications will be blocked to keep these applications from infecting computers on the network. Blocking these ports may affect certain types of connections back to your campuses. We reserve the right to deny network access to any machine that degrades overall network performance or attempts to spread viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and the like.
| 17. | Whom should I contact if I have questions? |
| | If you have questions about EDUCAUSE 2004 technology before the conference, contact Randy Richterat rrichter@educause.edu. During the conference, you can go to the EDUCAUSE Exhibitor Service Desk located in the exhibit hall. |
