Horizon Community

ELI is no longer actively pursuing this topic. This page is provided as an historical resource; it is not being updated or actively managed.

Description

The Horizon Community is sponsored by the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI). Its members work together to identify and explore the prototyping, adoption, and implementation of emerging technologies and practices in higher education, as well as to understand their potential impact on students, learning, and institutions.

Some of the themes the Horizon Community addresses include:

  • What are the features that make a technology important in education?
  • What can we learn from next generation learners about new technologies and the social structures necessary for their successful implementation?
  • Are there other communities that can inform our decision making in higher education related to emerging technologies and practices?
  • What unique needs do institutions have for successful adoption and implementation of emerging learning technology?
  • Is there a place for entertainment based applications and devices in higher education?

Facilitators

  • Cyprien Lomas, ELI Fellow and Director of the Learning Centre, Faculty of Agriculture, University of British Columbia
  • Nick Noakes, Associate Director, Center for Enhanced Learning and Teaching, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
