Identity and Access Management

The StateNets Steering Committee believe that our members and customers will need to adopt and implement these emerging NMI-EDIT identity and access management standards and practices not only to provide effective authentication methods, but also to gain network access to a growing number of federated research repositories and centralized GRID resources.

We believe that each StateNet can play an important role in centrally addressing statewide identity management needs and requirements. Further, we believe that we should collaborate via StateNets to implement statewide core middleware infrastructures capable of crossing state boundaries.

The initial focus group will collaborate to examine the implementation roadmaps and software suites that NMI developed (see http://www.nmi-edit.org). The initial role of the focus group will be to make specific recommendations to the Steering Committee regarding priority areas and how we might organize a multi-state effort to share the work of implementing individual component middleware layers.
