Gradle Brian Gradle counsels clients on a broad array of health law matters, with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the privacy, security, and transmission of data under federal and state laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). In addition, he has served as outside general counsel to healthcare plans operating in the Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest and has provided counsel on a wide variety of complex healthcare transactions involving managed care organizations, hospitals, and physician practices. Brian is an associate professor of law on the adjunct faculty at American University, where his courses include "Law in the Information Society (Privacy Law)" and "Health Care Transactions." Before joining Hogan & Hartson, Brian was a partner with a prominent national health law firm. Prior to that, he served as a Green Beret medic with the 11th Special Forces Group. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is the first comprehensive federal law protecting the privacy and security of health information.
