William WeemsWilliam Weems
Assistant Vice President for Academic Computing
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston

Bill Weems is the assistant vice president of academic technology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, as well as the associate dean of information technology and an associate professor in the integrative biology and pharmacology department at the UT Houston Medical School. His research interests include the neurophysiology of sympathetic, prevertebral ganglia; the production and control of intestinal motility and propulsion; and informatics as a research tool in the study, characterization, and management of complex systems. The recognition that useful computational solutions suitable for biomedical applications require a globally integrated set of information systems has led to his involvement in the development of middleware for integrated applications, the use of electronic publishing, the integration of academic and health-care information systems at the application layer, and the establishment of the UT System PKI and the UT System Identity Management Federation. Weems served as cochair of the EDUCASE PKI for Networked Higher Education Working Group from 2003 to 2005 and is currently cochair of the EDUCAUSE Identity Management Working Group. He is also a member of the UT System Identity Management Federation Board.
