EDUCAUSE Live! May 21, 2007 1:00 p.m. ET (12:00 p.m. CT, 11:00 a.m. MT, 10:00 a.m. PT); runs one hour Top-Ten Challenges of the Academic Technology CommunitySpecial Guests
John Campbell is the associate vice president for teaching and learning technologies at Purdue University. In this role, he oversees a staff of nearly 100 people and is responsible for all aspects of instructional technology support including course management, classroom technology, faculty consulting, user training, and hardware infrastructure. The recipient of the 2006 IT Leadership Award for Pedagogy and IT Practice by EdTech magazine, Campbell has nearly 20 years’ experience in technology leadership, management, multimedia development, and instructional design. Prior to coming to Purdue University, he served as an instructional designer and as the director of the Center for Instructional Technology at The Pennsylvania State University. He has published over 20 articles and book chapters and has presented at 60 national and international conferences. His efforts as a 2007 EDUCAUSE Scholar in Residence focus on the use of analytics to improve student success. He serves as chair for the Committee for Institutional Cooperation’s (Big Ten) Learning Technology Group and the EDUCAUSE Advisory Committee for Teaching and Learning and as a member of the editorial boards for AACE Journal and the International Journal of E-Learning. He holds a doctorate in higher education administration. Campbell was recently selected as one of CIO magazine's “CIO Ones to Watch,” in recognition of the work done by Information Technology at Purdue's (ITaP) teaching and learning area.
Dennis A. Trinkle is the chief information officer for Valparaiso University. He formerly served as associate vice president for academic affairs, CIO, and Tenzer Family University Professor in Instructional Technology at DePauw University. The former executive director of the American Association for History and Computing, Trinkle has been a Fellow of the Frye Leadership Institute and of the International Center for Computer-Enhanced Learning at Wake Forest University. He serves on the board of directors for Opelin Corporation and eLrn, Inc., and on the advisory boards for Askahistorian.com., Student Advantage, Localités/Localities, and the Gale Group and cochairs the EDUCAUSE Change Leadership Constituent Group. Trinkle publishes and speaks widely on technology, teaching and learning, and IT planning and management. The author or editor of a dozen books, his recent works include The Elements of E-Style: A Multimedia Style Guide; The History Highway: A Guide to Internet Resources; Writing, Teaching, and Researching History in the Electronic Age; and History.edu: Essays on Teaching with Technology. He holds a bachelor’s from DePauw University, a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Cincinnati, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
