Organization and Policies

Net@EDU programs are operated on behalf of the members according to recommendations of a member advisory committee. Most activities take place in independent working groups that focus member involvement in areas of particular interest and in several national meetings organized by a program committee. EDUCAUSE provides staff support for the major activities of Net@EDU.

The Mission of Net@EDU

Net@EDU is a member-driven program of EDUCAUSE whose mission is to promote thought leadership on advanced networking in higher education. Membership comprises information technology leaders from higher education, state networks, and industry. Members work together in advancing the evolution of a global networking environment that best supports the transformation of education and research through information technology.

The activities of Net@EDU members span the spectrum of academic networking, from administration of campus networks to local, state regional, national, and international networking projects. Net@EDU provides individual members a forum for discussing issues they deem important to the higher education community and the opportunity to work with colleagues who share those same interests

Membership

Membership in Net@EDU is institutional and requires an annual registration and dues that are separate from those for EDUCAUSE membership. Each member institution designates one primary representative to Net@EDU (most often the campus CIO or network CEO), who can speak on behalf of the organization as required for organizational purposes. Net@EDU meetings and working groups often include additional representatives from member institutions (for example, the director of networking) according to their interests in specific activities.

Meetings

Net@EDU will hold an annual member meeting each winter and will take advantage of other opportunities to meet throughout the year. Net@EDU meetings and activities are open to members without additional charge. Members normally pay their own travel and lodging expenses unless special funding has been prearranged. Nonmembers can attend the annual meeting by paying a registration fee.
