About Net@EDU

Providing a Vision for Future Networking

Net@EDU helps higher education shape and take full advantage of emerging networking opportunities. Our activities span the spectrum of academic and cutting-edge research networking, from the administration of campus and state networks to identifying the most appropriate network projects for implementation to acting as a national center for research and advocacy in network policy issues.

The Need for Net@EDU

Seizing the opportunities provided by the dramatic, ongoing developments in the technical, business, legal, and regulatory environments of networking is a constant challenge. Net@EDU helps its members understand, forecast, and shape these developments to best support their evolving networking needs.

A Tradition of Leadership

Net@EDU was created in July 1998 with the merger of the Networking and Telecommunications Task Force (NTTF) and the Federation of American Research Networks (FARNET). As part of EDUCAUSE, Net@EDU enjoys access to a vast network of information and other professional resources. Uniting these policy leadership organizations gives members a stronger voice for promoting the development of advanced networking in higher education.

Benefits of Membership

Net@EDU members are among the cutting-edge innovators and decision makers in the higher education and networking community. Net@EDU facilitates this thought leadership through

  • creating opportunities to collaborate with other networking leaders in academia, government, and industry
  • designing programs for forward-looking meetings, conferences, and workshops concerning the hottest technology and related policy issues.
  • providing first viewing of white papers and other publications by leading policy and technology experts
  • collaborating closely with the EDUCAUSE policy office in shaping higher education’s input on the development of federal networking projects and programs and imparting our views before Congress, the FCC, and the White House
  • promoting member-driven projects through active working groups
