We currently have an opening for a CIO in Los Angeles, California. Job Summary: The Chief Information Officer (CIO) requires a versatile individual with a background directing and coordinating the activities of IT engaged in administrative systems, computer operations, networking, help desk, web applications, computer lab support, desk top, training, and database administration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The CIO will be a member of various college committees; and establishes and directs the strategic long-term goals, policies and procedures for an information technology department. The CIO will need to work closely with the VP for Information Technology. Directs information management budgeting, strategic and tactical planning, business process re-engineering, Web and e-commerce development, applications support, network/infrastructure, user services and database administration. Directs the information and technology strategies of the company and site, based on forecasting information and senior management goals and objectives. Sets the overall direction of internal business systems. Identifies user needs and directs building of MIS teams to work across all levels of the organization. Serves as primary corporate spokesperson for information management. Explores new technologies for future planning and potential implementation. Interfaces with industry on information management and information technology matters. May carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Leadership: Participate as a member of the SunGuard Collegis' Client Services Management team. Actively participates in a number of key client committees, cabinet and/or Board-level meetings, ad-hoc advisory groups, institutional/community activities and planning committees. Business Development: Identify opportunities and participate in development of solutions that result in contract upgrades and renewals, including solutions that address broadband Institutional needs in both academic and administrative technology areas. Recognizes, creates, and tracks value-added and ROI activities. Management: Maintains regular contact with client executives and staff; develops a positive client relationship. The CIO focuses on client liaison and strategic aspects of SunGuard Collegis activities at the client location. Advises client on status of academic and administrative technologies at the institution relative to the client's strategic goals and objectives. Manages and directs staff's who supports administrative and/or academic computing, networking, user services, telecommunications and other academic and administrative technology functions. Assesses and anticipates projects, and recommends appropriate action and resources. Identifies user needs, resolves problems and directs building of teams to work across all levels of the organization. Establishes and directs the strategic and tactical goals, policies, and procedures related to academic and administrative technologies and services. Recommends and/or identifies the institution's long-term academic and administrative needs and propose solutions to accomplish the institution's business objectives and campus goals. Negotiates and maintains responsibility for managing vendor contracts. Assists with or creates requests for proposals. Completes and manages site budgets and business plans; reviews monthly revenue and expense reports. Prepares and submits required corporate reports in a timely manner. Implements company policy, methodologies, procedures and best practices at site location. Responsible for staffing, development, and mentoring. Communications regularly and effectively with SunGuard Collegis management on significant site issues, risks, opportunities, and general progress towards contractual and business goals. Education And/Or Experience: Requires a minimum Bachelors degree. Advanced degrees strongly preferred. 8 - 10 years of experience in the Information Technology field; or equivalent combination of education and experience leading IT strategic initiatives for Higher Education. Proven and accomplished individual with excellent leadership and strategic management skills that can work with a variety of academic and administrative staffs in a diverse environment. Strong customer service orientation, including firm grasp of service methodology and approaches. Strong understanding of Administrative Computing systems for in any of the following ERP solutions: DataTel, SCT Banner/IA PLUS, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Quodata, etc. Strong understanding of Network, Telecommunications and Instructional Technology Support Services. Strong personnel management ability, including organization, coaching, monitoring and evaluation. Strong planning and organizational skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
