Description:

Yale’s Office of Digital Assets and Infrastructure (ODAI) is charged with developing a digital information management strategy for Yale and building digital collections and technical infrastructure in a coordinated and collaborative manner across the entire campus. Programs include the development and deployment of large-scale digital asset management systems, long-term preservation repositories for Yale digital content in all formats, cross-collection search capabilities to enable discovery of collections hosted by numerous departments, and many other innovative initiatives.

Reporting to the Digital Information Architect, the Systems Administrator, Digital Asset Management (DAM) Infrastructure will manage the reliable operation of hardware and software systems comprising the ODAI infrastructure and related support services. This includes but is not limited to digital asset management systems, digital library systems, knowledge management systems, media processing systems and storage systems.Essential Duties

 

1. Work with Yale’s Information Technology Services (ITS) unit to ensure the proper installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, upgrading, documentation and quality assurance testing of hardware systems, operating systems, storage systems, network connectivity, security systems and notification systems for the ODAI infrastructure.
2. Work with external solution providers to support the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, upgrading, documentation and quality assurance testing of purchased systems such as the Digital Asset Management system.
3. Install, configure, operate, maintain, upgrade, document and perform quality assurance testing of open source systems such as the Digital Preservation Repository as well as systems developed in-house by Yale and the ODAI.
4. Plan, execute, perform and document quality assurance testing for the forward migration of legacy data and content into new systems.
5. Plan, administer, operate, back-up, trouble-shoot, maintain, upgrade, secure, test, document and provide operational reports on all systems in the ODAI infrastructure to ensure the reliable operation of ODAI services.
6. In conjunction with ITS, and external solution providers, plan, test, backup, restore and perform disaster recovery for all systems in the ODAI infrastructure.
7. Develop, document and execute quality assurance and unit testing procedures to ensure high quality solutions.
8. Troubleshoot and rapidly resolve all technical problems within the ODAI infrastructure and collaborate with information technology providers at Yale and beyond to resolve issues outside of the ODAI infrastructure.
9. Interface with vendors and open-source communities to resolve software issues.
10. Combine business and technical knowledge to determine the most appropriate approach to meeting business needs.
11. Encourage collaboration and partnership with process owners and staff in meeting application requirements. Motivate and sustain continued collaboration across teams and team members.
12. Maintain current expertise with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies that are relevant to the applications supported and envisioned.Education and

Experience

1. Bachelor’s Degree in computer science and six years of experience as systems administrator; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Additional Education and Experience1. Proven experience administering Linux and Windows servers, web servers, storage RAIDs, storage area networks, integrated systems and enterprise-grade software stacks.
2. Demonstrated experience in problem solving complex technical issues.
3. Demonstrated experience in multi-tasking and keeping priorities aligned to objectives.
4. Demonstrated experience in managing customer expectations with a strong customer focus.
5. Demonstrated experience in work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
6. Preferred: Five or more years of proven experience administering Linux and Windows servers, web servers, storage RAIDs, storage area networks, integrated systems and enterprise-grade software stacks.
7. Preferred: Broad understanding of digital asset management systems, digital library systems, knowledge management systems, media processing systems, storage systems, and associated technologies; strong appreciation for customer service in an educational environment; experience with the digital asset management solutions and/or the Fedora repository; experience with large-scale content repositories in an academic setting; experience with digital media and digital media production; familiarity with the Yale computing environment.
