POSTION SUMMARY: The University of Rochester is recruiting an Analyst/Programmer with competency in SQL, business intelligence tools, and ETL functions, preferably with Oracle Warehouse Builder and/or Cognos 8, to provide technical support in the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of data warehouse systems. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: This individual will: • Work with users to understand business requirements and prioritize user requirements. Define, document, and understand data definitions, data sources, business meaning and usage of information. Capture data in a manner that can be used to enhance overall quality of information. Assist in training users in the use of Business Intelligence tools and data access. • Assist in the development and documentation of data warehouse operations and tasks, including extraction, movement, loading, archival, security, backup, and aggregate table creation. Ensure the systems meet service level requirements. Monitor business use and performance. Install, test, and optimize hardware and software products. • Write or work with business intelligence tools and analytic applications that let end users access and analyze data into useful information for business decisions. Develop business-oriented metadata definitions. • Develop logical data models inclusive of entities, attributes, relationships, and definitions and integrates them with the enterprise data model. Produce physical data model from logical model. Aid in appropriate schema design. Document the technical architecture, including the physical components and their functionality. • Design, code, automate, schedule, and monitor extract-transform-load jobs, utilizing Oracle Warehouse Builder. Participate in upgrade of ETL tools and conversion of existing OWB objects. • Participate in design reviews to identify data warehouse improvement opportunities. Perform capacity planning, monitoring warehouse growth and processor usage. Provide system performance optimization, maintenance, and production support. • Maintain a broad knowledge of technology, equipment, and/or systems relevant to Data Warehouse. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Provide on-call support as required. • Must be self-motivated, enjoy multi-tasking, have a strong team orientation, and learn quickly. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstration of the following knowledge and skills: • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. • Ability to translate business needs into system requirements. • Experience in SQL and PL/SQL programming (stored procedures, packages, functions, triggers) • Demonstrated experience with DBMS environments (experience with Oracle and Sybase on UNIX is preferred) • Demonstrated experience in the implementation and/or maintenance of Data Warehouse environments • Demonstrated experience in the use of Business Intelligence tools, including ETL. Experience with Oracle Data Warehouse Builder preferred • Experience in SQL programming and shell scripting preferred • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Business Intelligence tools including OLAP and ETL • Experience supporting the following lines of business preferred: Student, Finance, Advancement, Grant, United Way, and/or Billing systems data • Ability to provide on-call support as required MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following: • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline. 2 to 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. • Experience in higher education field preferred. • Proficiency using SQL in an Oracle/UNIX environment. • Demonstrated proficiency in the implementation and maintenance of data warehouse solutions required.
