Job Description Office of Information Technology IT Business Office Assistant Director for Personnel and Project Management Job Description The position will report directly to the IT Business Office Director and works directly with the Director and the CIO. The position has two distinct roles: · Human Resources: Provide leadership, plan and direct and human resources functions for the IT organization at The University of Tennessee. The human resources portion of this position includes performance management, job audits, position searches, hiring, terminations, and other employee status changes to the management staff of OIT. Maintain and develop departmental policies as they relate to human resource issues. · Project Management: Provide leadership, plan and direct the project management function of OIT. The project management portion of this position includes managing staff project management professionals (currently staff of four) by providing group governance and process standardization. In addition, the successful candidate should have the ability to effectively develop and implement training programs related to both personnel and project management. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with the other supporting university offices related to this job. Provide general council and advice to staff members in OIT regarding human resource and project management related questions. Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in human resources, management, business administration or other closely related area. Graduate degree is preferred. Job Requirements 7+ years in a human resource position with management experience Experience in employee relations matters Extensive experience in and knowledge of human resource issues, policies, legal issues, and procedures. Excellent written and communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions in a timely manner Ability to interpret and apply policies and provide guidance to management staff about employee issues Preferred Qualifications Experience working with highly technical staff PHR or SPHR certifications Experience in an educational or government setting Experience with LEAN and/ or Six Sigma principles A retirement program fully paid by the State of Tennessee is a condition of employment for all regular full-time employees of the University.
