The University of Alabama, one of the top 50 public universities in the nation, invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Provost for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO). The University is a comprehensive research institution with over 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and over 3,900 full-time faculty and staff.

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Associate Provost for Information Technology/CIO is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and accountability for the overall technology services and infrastructure on campus which include enterprise technology, instructional technology, network and computing support, systems development, and telecommunications.

The successful candidate must have proven leadership ability, excellent organizational ability, and strong interpersonal skills along with experience in personnel and budgetary management. The candidate will have a broad knowledge of best practices in the multiple facets of the field of information technology. He or she will have demonstrated the ability to provide leadership for large-scale, campus-wide technology projects, to develop and implement strategic initiatives, to initiate and sustain collaborative partnerships within a large, complex organization with diverse constituencies, and to manage change and transformation. The candidate will be committed to the development of an effective IT workforce that is dedicated to customer service for faculty, staff, and students.

Minimum qualifications include 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in a large, complex IT environment with at least 5 years of experience in a higher education setting. A master's degree is required, and a Ph.D. is preferred.
