THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO is currently recruiting for an Asst Vice Provost & Director of Online Learning,   $81,528 flexible, commensurate with experience.  This is a security sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon a successful background investigation. Requires a Master's Degree.  Prefer a degree in Higher Education Administration, Adult & Higher Education, College Teaching, or similar field of study.   Qualified candidates must have extensive experience in planning, developing, implementing, and managing technology-based learning. The candidate must have a solid understanding of best practices in blended and online education including learning theory, delivery models, technology tools, infrastructure, quality control, marketing, governance, metrics, and business planning. Additional requirements: 10+ years of experience in leading and managing online learning and development initiatives; Demonstrated success in leading large scale projects and delivering on expected results; Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment; Well-developed customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships; Demonstrated expertise in adult learning theory, instructional design, and training content development including e-based learning, classroom training and online education; Development and delivery of faculty development programs to promote online education, technical training and other related training initiatives; Knowledge of learning assessment, program development, evaluation, and intellectual property rights; Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications; Working knowledge of Blackboard/WebCT, other learning management systems, and online learning technology applications; Exceptional presentation skills; Knowledge of graphic design, multimedia, audio/video editing; Experience managing creative professionals.  Prefer university teaching experience; Experience producing online instructional materials or training resources for Educational Institutions; Knowledge of Web 2.0, Social Networking, "new media"; Knowledge of computer technology as a teaching tool.      Posting# 20090517 closes 11/24/09.
 
Duties:  This leadership position within UTSA's Office of Information Technology (OIT) will lead online learning professionals in the higher-education environment, interact with faculty and staff, and help ensure university 2016 goals are met. Responsibilities include the coordination and management of Online Learning efforts for UTSA, managing and scheduling staff and facilities to ensure the delivery of a high-quality and dependable service for faculty, administrative, and student customers. Manage a team of professionals focused on designing, managing and delivering course content in for enhanced, hybrid, and fully online courses. The Assistant Vice Provost is expected to contribute to UTSA's growth and development in a variety of ways, including: Service/Project Management: Lead planning and budgeting; mobilize and manage teams; facilitate buy-in of proposed solutions from top faculty and staff levels; direct on-time, quality delivery of work products; manage project economics, risk and issues to ensure successful delivery; ability to set and achieve goals; Customer Management: Assist in the management of day to day interactions with faculty and staff; create and deliver regular status reports and presentations; Grant Development: Identify opportunities and work with others to contribute to and develop grant proposals; Practice Development: Develop practical solutions and methodologies; develop "whitepapers" and "point-of-view" documents; participate in public speaking events; get published in industry periodicals; excellent communication and organizational skills;
People Development: Perform role of counselor and coach; provide input and guidance into the staffing process; actively participate in staff recruitment and retention activities; provide leadership and support for remote and on-site delivery teams and staff; Oversee the development, coordination, implementation, and maintenance of a campus Online Education Plan aligned to overall OIT goals and UTSA's 2016 Plan; Act as a liaison between Academic Affairs, Information Technology, Admissions and Registration, and the UT system to ensure compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for telecourse scheduling and approval; Create and deliver learning curricula and programs for the university which support 2016 Plan objectives, enhance performance and champions long term goal of building an enduring organization; Communicate with university departments concerning capabilities for instruction and provide technical advice for the development of interactive and video instructional production; Develop distance education partnerships with other UT components, local community colleges, area K-12 schools and the business community to strengthen UTSA mission to become a Tier 1 university.
