The IT Systems & Operations department is seeking a Microsoft SQL Server database administrator. This position provides administrative, managerial and technical leadership in providing effective database services for applications which span all of the university's application areas. The primary focus of this position is supporting the university's Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure. This position will be responsible for the implementation, management, support, and security of all centrally managed Microsoft SQL Server databases at WCU.

This position will function at the Advanced Competency Level.

Work Hours:
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/Competencies: -In depth understanding of, and experience with, server-client computing and relational database environments
- Efficient and effective application of the Microsoft SQL Server database management system, including Transact-SQL programming
- Experience and skill with data management and developing logic and flow in the design of computer applications, including use of data processing flowcharting techniques
- Familiarity with and ability to use at least one 4th generation language, or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
- Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
- Demonstrated proficiency with Windows Server operating systems
- Good understanding of organizations' goals and objectives, and ability to acquire knowledge of their business processes
- Excellent technical documentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, and to accept and adapt to new methodologies for applications development
- Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
- Self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements Graduation from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in programming and three years of experience in business applications consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.  
Preference will be given to those applicants with the following training and experience: - In depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2000, 2005, and 2008) database administration, tuning, security, and management.
- Preference will be given to applicants with progressive experience in database and application server administration, programming, and applications analysis, including the design and maintenance of a relational database system; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prefer 3 years experience working with software applications built on Microsoft SQL Server.
- 3-5 years Microsoft SQL Server experience
- 2 -3 years IT operations experience with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
- Experience delivering reports using Microsoft Reporting Services
- In depth knowledge of Windows Server operating systems (2000, 2003, and 2008)
- BE or BS Degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field preferred
- Progressive experience working in enterprise level IT environment, preferably in a higher education organization
- Experience integrating MS SQL and SharePoint
