Zayed University seeks an experienced visionary to serve in its newly created position of Chief Information Officer for Libraries, Instructional & Information Technology (CIO). Reporting directly to the Provost and working in tandem with the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer (CAFO), the CIO serves on the university's senior leadership team. Key responsibilities include: developing a strategic direction that will enhance the student experience; advance Zayed University’s mission and goals; leading the development of innovative technologies that support teaching, learning, research, student-life and administrative operations; developing a robust and dependable technology infrastructure and managing all aspects of the university’s technology/information environment.
 
The successful candidate will have at least a master’s degree in information systems, library science, management or a related field, and must have ten years of progressive leadership experience in an organization of comparable size and complexity; five years experience within higher education and senior leadership experience are preferred as is experience in the classroom. A successful record of administration is an essential qualification including strategic planning, tactical planning and program development; proven supervisory and staff development skills; strong communication skills; an understanding of the role of information technology and learning resources in higher education and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies and to build consensus among these groups.
 
The CIO will need to be an innovative individual who promotes teamwork and collaboration and fosters a learning environment that will complete the convergence of all IT areas and functions within the University. Zayed University is looking for an individual who is an entrepreneur and proficient in technology but who also can work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.  The CIO will oversee the Libraries, Computing Services, Web Services, Teaching and Learning. 
 
Responsibilities
 
·   Provide vision and direction in line with the University’s overarching vision and strategic plans.  This includes broadening the use of computing and communications technologies. The ability to leverage technology to transform higher education administration,   teaching and learning, research and collaboration is of particular importance.
·   Promote and enhance collaborative communication.
·   Continue to work on enhancing a positive culture at the University regarding technology.
·   Direct strategic initiatives to significantly increase the University’s online presence.
·   Coordinate initiatives to minimize duplication of effort, realize operating efficiencies, minimize costs, and bring process improvements to the University. 
·   Work collaboratively with the CIO’s of the other UAE public higher education institutions
·   Coordinate the activities with the new Internet II consortium (ANKABUT) to collaborate on research and instructional opportunities

.   Develop long range budget strategies to enable the University to accomplish strategic initiatives
