Job Summary: Directly supervises technicians, assistants and/or student employees in the Lab Technician area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. May assist in interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Develops and delivers or coordinates the delivery of workshops to faculty and students on instructional technologies and mathematical/statistical packages. Inspects computer equipment and reads order sheet listing user requirements to prepare computers for delivery. Installs or assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on user's premises. Loads specified software images and/or packages such as operating systems, word processing, or academic software packages into computer. Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operation. Responds to client inquiries and Lab technicians' escalated issues concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems. Instructs users in use of equipment, software, and manuals. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems. Coordinates activities with help desk, network services, or other information systems groups. Provides updates, status, and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail, or in-person communication. Replaces defective or inadequate software packages. Maintains inventory/database of academic software licenses, coordinating renewals and verifying/adjusting quantities as required. Assists student lab users with basic functions of academic/mathematical software packages in the Quantitative Analysis Lab. Assist faculty users with integrating technologies and software programs into their courses via the Teaching Technology Center. Creates and delivers training on software packages for faculty and staff. Coordinates the writing and updating of policy, procedures and training manuals. Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction. Experience: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in Lab coordination and management is highly desirable. Experience with personal computers, including Microsoft and Macintosh platforms. Experience with Windows 9x to XP and Microsoft Office, including Outlook. Knowledge of mathematical and statistical software packages. Knowledge of Apple Macintosh computers Knowledge of multi-media software such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro. Very end user oriented with good verbal and written communications skills. Must have excellent customer interaction skills. Must have good work ethic. Must be team orientated. Excellent communications (written and oral) and documentation skills. Ability to work closely with user community of students, staff and faculty. Ability to quickly master a variety of software packages. Ability to explain software functionality to a wide audience. Ability to work closely with team members. Must be a team-oriented person. Working knowledge or experience with Microsoft networking Desktop and network support knowledge.
