Description:

The University of Wyoming Division of Information Technology is accepting applications for a Computer Support Specialist, Senior, to serve in the Academic Support Unit.

Essential Duties: Support of the UW Student computer labs. Use lab imaging software to deploy operating systems and software to 1400 lab nodes, develop installation protocols, troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues. Assist with operational aspects of new services and technologies that are to be used in classroom/lab environments. Provide support for assistive technologies, special academic discipline specific technologies, and perform routine maintenance on non-standard lab systems. Support UW student laptop initiative for colleges, and student walk in support including but not limited to installation, configuration, troubleshooting of operating systems and software, and network connectivity. Support alternate student computing platforms in computer lab environment.

Knowledge of: Advanced knowledge of principals, methods, and techniques of computing operating systems and hardware, specifically a working knowledge of the Windows and MAC operating system and knowledge of the Unix operating system. Working knowledge of computer lab environment including software, hardware and policies. Advanced knowledge of software installation and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of supported office productivity tools. Working knowledge of batch file programming and automated installations. Advanced knowledge of computer and network security configurations and utilities at the desktop, laptop, mobile device, and enterprise level.

Skills & Abilities to: Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff on many levels of technical knowledge. Work with limited supervision and adjust schedule to changing priorities. Provide senior level operational leadership. Manage student technicians by training, assigning tasks and monitoring progress. Read and comprehend technical information related to computers, computer peripherals and software. Identify, troubleshoot and resolve highly complex computing problems. Recognize industry trends and identify new technology to enhance the computing environment.
