University Information Technology (UIT) is a university-wide service organization dedicated to the strategic planning, implementation, and support of technology products and services that anticipate and meet the academic, research, and business needs of the Tufts community. UIT works in partnership with schools, business units, and other academic support organizations to provide campus-wide services in the areas of academic and research technology, enterprise application systems and services, networking and telecommunications, information security, data center operations, and user support, training and outreach. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this senior position exercises discretion, independent judgment, and strategic leadership to deliver enterprise information systems and client support services. The Director, Enterprise Applications oversees the planning, management and operation of the unit charged with developing, supporting, and ensuring the reliability, stability and integrity of Tufts University’s enterprise administrative information systems, including Student, Financial, Human Resources, University Advancement, and Decision Support. Areas of responsibility include: establishing and administering operating and technology standards; partnering with university clients on the development of new IT services; overseeing the design and implementation of an enterprise application infrastructure; enterprise architecture standards and practices; problem identification and resolution processes and application capacity planning practices; formulating and implementing application development security standards under the guidance of the Information Security Office; providing institutional web application systems and technical support; and deploying and supporting non-enterprise, departmental application systems. The Director, Enterprise Applications is also responsible for overseeing Client Support Services, UIT’s primary client facing unit charged with delivering timely, high quality technology support services to Tufts University students, faculty and staff. Client Support Services works with other UIT directorates to maintain and support existing relationships with key business partners and to establish new relationships with various educational, research, administrative and student entities within Tufts in order to facilitate the deployment of UIT resources to best meet their current and future business needs. The Director, Enterprise Applications will ensure that performance and operational metrics to measure client satisfaction, improve internal operations, and enhance service offerings are instituted. Basic Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in information systems area, preferably in higher education, with the most recent five (5) years demonstrating a progression in management experience to the senior level
- Experience in supporting the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite of services, inclusive of Student Information Systems;
- Experience in using a well-structured life cycle management process for implementation of changes in application systems
- Proven ability to successfully manage and supervise staff involved in supporting an enterprise application ERP environment
- Should have extensive knowledge and experience in a higher education environment supporting a wide spectrum of information systems, tools, and support services
- Strong management and leadership skills, including coaching, consensus building, and ability to effectively manage resources to address competing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to simplify highly technical topics
- Effective communication at all levels - staff, clients, executive, vendors - and to diverse constituencies both technical and non- technical
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus and to develop collegial, collaborative working relationships with a broad range of constituencies
- Experience with project management and portfolio management processes
- Experience with or knowledge of service provision best practices (e.g.ITIL)
Preferred Qualifications: The following are all highly preferred: a Master’s degree; additional technical training in the form of vendor-provided curricula; and experience developing and maintaining operational and performance metrics.
