Position: Database Administrator (Job #S040-07) Department: Information Systems Starting Date: When filled Starting Salary: $5,000 to $7,000 Monthly (Commensurate w/experience) w/Benefits Description: The Oracle DBA (DBA) role is to support existing Oracle databases. Duties to include performing database maintenance, technical support, supporting on-going application development, installation and upgrades of Oracle and applications. Works closely with functional end users to support implemented Oracle applications, development tools, reporting tools, and other third part solutions. Examples: Analyzes problems outlined by management or systems analysts in terms of detailed equipment requirements and capabilities. Works with customers to determine proper flow of information. Assists in preparing detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for existing and proposed computer applications. Assists in development and testing of automated systems. Assists in evaluating data processing equipment and techniques for applicability, reliability, flexibility, speed, and costs. Prepares computer block diagrams and machine logic flowcharts for detailed coding of complex problems. May verify program logic by preparing and using test data. Sets user privileges within the database environment. Physical Condition: Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to travel long distances. Experience: 2+ years Oracle Database Administrator and technical support experience. Experience configuring and maintaining highly scalable environments. Must have prior experience in writing programs for functional end users. Knowledge: Knowledge of Oracle 9i & 10g (ideal); tuning and troubleshooting Oracle instances; building databases in different environments and Installing Oracle on Windows/Linux/UNIX. Knowledge of writing and optimizing code in PL/SQL. Knowledge of Oracle RAC, preferred. Knowledge in Oracle Backup/Recovery methodologies and strategies. UNIX Administration knowledge, knowledge of Microsoft IIS, Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 and Microsoft Office products is preferred. Knowledge of client/server based systems and ability to maintain software. Knowledge of Oracle database administration or current software programs deployed at MSU is desirable. Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, required.
