The Desert Research Institute is seeking to fill a full-time professional position, located in Reno, Nevada, to develop and maintain database-driven Web and client/server applications in support of DRI's research and administrative computing activities. This position will report to DRI's Director of Information Technology and work closely with the Web Designer and other IT staff. Specific responsibilities include: -- Develop, document, and maintain databases and Web-based applications for administrative needs, particularly financial and personnel data warehouses, in an Oracle environment. -- Maintain and document applications for grants management, including tracking and reporting research proposal and funding activities. -- Design, implement, and integrate a variety of applications and databases relevant to the administration of the Institute, including timesheet and leave balance tracking, credit card processing, workshop registrations, work request systems, and personnel directories. -- Assist with planning and eventual migration of existing data and databases to pending Nevada System of Higher Education Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. -- Serve as a backup Database Administrator for Oracle and Postgres databases. Other duties include conducting user training; working with other support staff members to develop Web-based knowledge bases, training materials, equipment inventories, policies, and procedures; and developing new computing resources and capabilities for DRI researchers and staff. Growth into other areas and duties is possible. REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE -- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, or Bachelor's degree with equivalent certified training and experience. -- At least five years experience in applications programming, include hands-on development in PHP, HTML, Javascript, SQL, and Oracle databases. -- At least three years experience in database design, including creation and maintenance of Oracle stored procedures and packages. -- User's knowledge of UNIX operating system and development environment. -- Excellent oral and written communication skills. -- Excellent organizational and time management skills. -- Ability to accurately and completely follow directions and produce detailed and accurate documentation. -- Ability to work as an integral member of a small computer support team. -- Additional requirements along with desired skills and abilities are available in a full position announcement at http://jobs.dri.edu, just click on the title for position #10-020. Related Job Factors: Although the position is located in Reno, occasional travel to Las Vegas may be required. The position's workload and priorities will occasionally require working long hours.
