Lehigh University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Distance Education and Summer Sessions. Lehigh University, a private research university, was founded in 1865 by philanthropist Asa Packer with the goal of blending classical and technical education to prepare students to succeed in a changing world. Its picturesque, 1,600-acre wooded campus is nestled in the Lehigh Valley just fifty miles north of Philadelphia and eighty miles west of New York City and is home to over 4,500 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students. The University is comprised of four colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, and Engineering and Applied Science.

The Director provides leadership and overall management for the Office of Distance Education and Summer Sessions. This unit, with 16 current staff members, is part of Library and Technology Services (LTS) and reports to the Vice-Provost for LTS. Graduate courses are offered in classrooms on campus and transmitted to sites and individuals off campus via online, satellite, videoconferencing, and other delivery technologies. Over 2,500 students participate in Lehigh-based Distance Education programs each year. Lehigh's Summer Sessions program serves approximately 3,000 students annually.

The Director will work in collaboration with academic deans, the LTS Vice Provost, the Provost, and faculty committees to meet enrollment and fiscal goals through the creation of viable new programs, targeted marketing/promotional efforts, excellent student/client service, and leading-edge delivery/instructional technology. Strategic leadership includes developing collaborative partnerships with major industrial, business, and scientific organizations and with other educational institutions to provide students with a wide spectrum of programming content and delivery.

Position Requirements: A minimum of five to seven years in higher education or corporate administration with an emphasis on program development/program management is required. Additional qualifications include managerial and marketing experience, experience with graduate level programs and student populations, and excellent presentation and communication skills. A master's degree is required and a doctoral degree is preferred.
