The University of Colorado has undertaken the implementation of an electronic research administration (ERA) system. CU has selected the InfoEd software product as the enterprise ERA system The InfoEd electronic research administration (ERA) project will introduce a new computer application to the University of Colorado that will be centrally managed at University Information Systems (UIS) alongside the PeopleSoft HR and Finance systems and Student Information Systems. The CU System Office has the responsibility for managing the ERA system from an infrastructure perspective and will provide some additional support in the areas of application security, system interfaces, and quality assurance. The campus research administration and compliance offices will be the data stewards of the system, with campus teams taking responsibility for running the back office functions and rolling out the software to faculty, administrators, and other associated users.
 

The ERA technical lead is responsible for the implementation of the InfoEd ERA software and the technical underpinnings of this system within UIS. Major areas of responsibilities include advanced technical troubleshooting, coordination with UIS and vendor resources of patches and upgrades, recommendation and implementation of environment and migration strategies, specification and coding of interfaces, and support of InfoEd reporting system. Critical to the success of this position is the ability to provide leadership to a technical team in a matrix organization with the goal of providing a unified service to the campuses.

Technical responsibilities include:
•Collaborative leadership in the design and recommendations concerning the environment and migration strategies for InfoEd to support multi-campus environment and to support multiple implementation timelines;
 
•Specification and design of interfaces to and from the InfoEd system to ensure data quality, consistency and system stability;
 
•Troubleshooting of system issues including stability, performance, data integrity and other issues;
 
•Coordination of UIS and InfoEd resources in determining root cause of issues and in implementation of fixes. Management of requests through InfoEd modification process as necessary;
 
•Development of technical documentation
 
 
Service and application management responsibilities include (in concert with an Application Manager):
•Managing future upgrades and patches of the software;
 
•Serving as liaison to University Information Services technical units (server and database administrators, information resource management technical staff and other University technical units);
 
•Troubleshooting ERA systems problems;
 
•Coordinating system and quality assurance testing for the ERA system when new releases are issued or as needed;
 
•Testing software patches and upgrades;
 
•Coordinating with the technical team to provide system maintenance and support users;
 
•Monitoring information about “grants.gov” and other electronic proposal submission systems that impact the ERA production systems;
 
•Review and maintain various audit logs and exception/administrative reports and report anomalies to management
 
Responsibilities for access management include:
•Oversight of the user permissions process to access the system;
 
•Developing and maintaining training documentation, manuals, instructor guides, and job aids related to using and maintaining the system;
 
•Providing technical support to others who generate reports using ERA system data;
 
•Monitoring the impact software changes have on report environments outside the ERA system, such as the central information warehouse (CIW) and coordinating with support units in prioritizing problems;
 
•Developing, maintaining and coordinating ERA data services; recommend business practices to optimize and streamline data services;
 
•Testing reporting capabilities when updates to the ERA are released;
 

•Developing and maintaining liaison with the software vendor (InfoEd)

 

Minimum Requirements

•Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, or four years of equivalent professional experience in IT application support of ERA or similar systems;
•Two years of experience with the ERA or similar business systems;
•Two years of experience with SQL development in an Oracle environment;
•Two years of experience utilizing a scripting language such as Perl, Python, PHP, or Ruby;
•Two years experience in an application support role including extensive troubleshooting;
•Two years experience in supporting Microsoft Windows applications (especially ASP and .NET);

•Demonstrated communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

•Previous experience working in a large, complex research university with multiple campuses;

•Two or more years of working with the InfoEd or other ERA systems;
•Two or more years of experience with PeopleSoft development (HRMS preferred);

•Two or more years developing reports in a standard reporting tool (e.g. Crystal Reports)
